What if You Slow Down - 10 Ways to Simplify Your Life
Why is it so hard to just slow down and enjoy each moment as it comes?
I have questioned this myself many times over the past few weeks. It seems like we are all in a race, trying to do 100 things at once, attempting to multitask, and striving to achieve as much as possible in the shortest time. But, as you might have guessed, this approach doesn't work.
Focus on what you are doing. Do not try to think about the next thing which you are going to do.
The Culture of “Busy”
I have always hated the word "busy". In my previous workplaces, I have jokingly said that "busy" is banned from my vocabulary and I don't want to hear it used around me. It has worked.
To be honest, I don't appreciate "busy" people. I don't think their life is more important than those who aren't that "busy". I understand you may have busier periods in your life and that's okay. But you cannot be always "busy" without being stressed out.
The word "busy" is thrown around so casually that it has lost its meaning. In many workplaces, being "busy" is seen as a badge of honor.
But what does it truly signify?
More often than not, it points to poor time management, a lack of prioritization, or an inability to say no. Being perpetually busy can lead to stress and burnout, making it essential to rethink our approach to productivity.
You should ask yourself why you are so "busy"? Cannot delegate? Wanna have some attention? Wanna make others feel sorry for your "busy life"?
Yeah, please stop using "busy" as your excuse that you cannot live your life!
Concentrate on being effective in what you do and do only things that are intentional and truly matter to you.
Try to cut down all the things that don't belong to your bigger picture. It's easier to say than do, I know.
Redefining Productivity
Productivity should not be about how much we can squeeze into our day but rather how effectively we can achieve our goals.
This means focusing on activities that are intentional and genuinely matter.
By cutting down on the unnecessary and focusing on what aligns with our values, we can live a more meaningful and less stressful life.
10 STEPS TO TAKE FOR SIMPLIFIED LIFE
Step 1: Keep a Gratitude Journal
One of the simplest yet most powerful ways to slow down and appreciate life is by keeping a gratitude journal. Each day, write down at least three things you are grateful for. This practice helps shift your focus from what's lacking to what's abundant in your life, fostering a more positive mindset.
Have a notebook and pen beside your bed and write those things before you go to bed. Read also my blog post on intentional living.
Step 2: Identify Your Core Values
Take some time to reflect on what truly matters to you. What are the values that guide your life?
Write them down and evaluate if your current lifestyle aligns with these values. Living in accordance with your core values can bring clarity and purpose, making it easier to cut out the noise and focus on what’s important.
Step 3: Embrace Quiet Time
In our fast-paced world, solitude can be a rare commodity. Yet, it’s in these quiet moments that we can reconnect with ourselves and our thoughts.
Whether it’s sipping a cup of coffee in silence, meditating, or simply sitting alone with your thoughts, make time for solitude. It’s a powerful way to recharge and gain perspective.
Step 4: Start Doing Yoga
Yoga is not just about physical flexibility. It’s also about mental calmness.
Starting a yoga practice can help you slow down, breathe deeply, and find inner peace. Begin with simple poses and gradually increase the complexity as you become more comfortable. The benefits of yoga extend beyond the mat, helping you cultivate a more mindful and serene lifestyle.
Step 5: Establish a Morning Routine
How you start your day sets the tone for the rest of it. Create a morning routine that is calm, structured, and includes activities that bring you joy. Whether it’s reading, journaling, or a short walk, find what makes you happy and stick to it. A peaceful morning routine can make your entire day feel more manageable.

Step 6: Declutter Your Digital Space
A cluttered digital space can be just as overwhelming as a physical one. Take time to clean up your computer, smartphone, and other devices.
Delete unnecessary files, organize your photos, and uninstall apps you no longer use. Arrange and archive old photos and documents and transfer them into a cloud or an external drive.
Get rid of everything unnecessary! Take time to do this. It will not happen in a day.
A tidy digital environment can help reduce stress and increase productivity.
Step 7: Create White Space
White space, in a literal and figurative sense, can highlight what’s truly important. Start by clearing a surface in your home, like a table or a shelf, and leave it empty.
Over time, only put back items that are meaningful or useful. This practice can help you appreciate the value of simplicity and make your living space more serene.
Step 8: Declutter Your Wardrobe
A simplified wardrobe can make a big difference in your daily routine. Go through your clothes and get rid of items that you haven’t worn in the past year, don’t fit, or don’t make you feel good.
Donate, recycle, or sell them on the flea market. This will make it easier to choose outfits and reduce the mental load of decision-making.
Step 9: Plan Your Meals
Meal planning can save you time, money, and stress. Start by writing down your favorite meals and creating a weekly plan. Make a shopping list of the ingredients you’ll need.
This not only helps you eat healthier but also reduces the last-minute scramble to figure out what’s for dinner.
Step 10: Use Good Tableware
Don’t save your best tableware for special occasions. Using beautiful utensils, glasses, and table linens can turn any meal into a celebration. It’s a simple way to bring joy and mindfulness into your everyday life.
Every day has a reason to celebrate with good tableware and create special memories with your family. They make you feel better, give a joy, and are beautiful to look at. Do not just store them inside your cupboard and wait for the right moment. Start making your life more beautiful!
Enjoying your Slow Life
Slowing down isn’t about doing less but it’s about making space for what truly matters. Whether you live in a bustling city or a quiet town, finding your peaceful haven is crucial. Often, it’s a state of mind.
For me, slow living means enjoying time in my garden, having unhurried meetings, taking the time to read a book, and spending quality time with loved ones.
Embracing a slower pace of life can lead to greater happiness, better health, and more meaningful relationships. By focusing on what truly matters and eliminating the unnecessary, you can simplify your life and enjoy each moment. Take a step back, breathe, and savor the beauty of slowing down.
ENJOY THIS MOMENT AND THIS DAY! KEEP IT SLOW!
