Pinterest trends: How to Find and Utilize Pinterest Trends
Pinterest remains one of the best platforms for spotting emerging trends in interior design, fashion, food, and lifestyle. In this blog post, I'll show you how to leverage Pinterest for trend spotting and content development.
Trendspotting on Pinterest
Pinterest is the place to spot trending themes, items, products, and events. It has always been a place where people save and find inspiration.
Having a great eye and an open mind will help you to see upcoming trends on Pinterest. I know it might not be as simple as it sounds but let me tell you how I do it.
How to find trends on Pinterest?
One thing I know for sure is that you need to browse Pinterest a lot to spot those upcoming trends. If you never are on the platform, you will never spot anything. Keep your eyes open and be present.
After seeing some colors, styles, and items time after time on your Pinterest feed you can assume that they are most probably signs of an upcoming trend.
But you also need to trust your instincts. All the things that you’ll see constantly on your Pinterest feed will not make it to a megatrend.
Pinterest’s own trend reports are an important part when I’m searching for upcoming trends. You will find them on the Pinterest Business insights page.
So, here comes my best tips for Pinterest Trends spotting:
1. Be Active on Pinterest
Regular browsing is key to spotting trends
Pay attention to recurring elements, colors, and styles
Follow influencers and power users in your niche
Trust your intuition - not everything recurring will become a mega-trend
2. Utilize Pinterest's Tools
Pinterest Business insights and trend reports
“Ideas for you” suggestions on mobile app
Pinterest Predicts annual reports
Analytics tools for business accounts —> Pinterest Trends
3. Advanced Trend Spotting
Watch for cross-category patterns
Monitor international trends on other platforms, too! Check TikTok, Instagram, and Google Trends
Follow industry leaders and trend creators
Pay attention to seasonal shifts
Action Tip:
Start following Pinterest influencers on your niche, and other Pinterest super users as they usually are the ones who either create trends or spot them first on Pinterest!
PRO tip:
When you put your cursor to Pinterest Search bar it shows you “Popular on Pinterest”. That’s one way to know what things are trending on Pinterest at the moment. However, those trending things are aimed at you based on your own interests and prior searches on Pinterest.
What to do when you spot a trend?
The first thing that you should do is create a Pinterest board for that trend. 😁
After you’ve created a Pinterest board start creating your own content which incorporates the upcoming trend to your own content. And of course, start pinning it to your relevant board(s).
Here’s an example of what I mean:
One old mega-trend has been flamingos.
You’re a lifestyle blogger writing mostly about food, family, and travel.
Brainstorm how you can incorporate flamingos into your blog posts so that they will interest your audience.
You can create a flamingo-themed food party or take a towel with flamingo prints with you when you’re traveling on a beach holiday. Or you can make DIY flamingo crafts with your kid (okay, I don’t know exactly how to do any DIY flamingo crafts things but you may have ideas for that…). There are endless possibilities to be creative and on-trend.
Pssst...flamingos are not a new trend anymore but I just used it as an example of an old trend that was really big on Pinterest.
When creating your own content for the trend that you think might be big in the future start contacting possible collaborators and other blogs and bloggers. Ask whether they can help you to spread the word about that soon-to-be trend.
Pitch your blog posts and story ideas of the upcoming trend to big blogs and online magazines.
My best tips how to capitalize on trends you've found:
🍋 Document Your Findings
Create a secret board for trend tracking
Save ideas and inspiration systematically
Take notes on your observations
Track which predictions come true
🍋 Develop Original Content
Adapt trends to fit your niche
Create Pinterest-optimized content:
DIY projects
How-to guides
Recipes
Inspiration images
Quotes and tips
🍋 Network and Share
Connect with potential collaborators
Pitch trend-focused articles to other blogs
Share your content strategically across boards
Engage with your community around trending topics

Action Tips for Content Creators
Adapt the trends to your niche and audience while maintaining authenticity in your content. The key is to find the balance between trending topics and your unique brand voice. Here are some tips on how to do that:
🥐 Plan Your Content
Create content at least 6-8 weeks before the trend peaks (I usually recommend 3 months or even 6 months before as Pinterest has been very “slow” lately)
Focus on sustainable and mindful celebrations
Emphasize practical solutions for common holiday challenges
Include both traditional and modern interpretations
Create content that promotes well-being during the busy season
Update existing content from previous years
🥐 Optimize Your Pins
Use seasonal keywords in pin titles and descriptions
Create vertical pins with clear, bright imagery
Include step-by-step guides where applicable
Add value through detailed pin descriptions
🥐 Engage with Trends
Combine multiple trending elements in one blog post or a pin
Offer unique perspectives on popular themes
Create series of related content
Cross-reference between different trend categories
Add modern twists to classic themes
Consider also current events and cultural shifts
Create evergreen content for each major trend
Develop template styles for quick updates
Maintain a calendar of recurring trends
Note: These trends are based on current pattern analysis and predictions. Always check Pinterest's official trend reports for the most up-to-date information.
